GGSDY Hapiya S777+ Bluetooth Speaker Review

Categories Headphones and Speakers

Rating: 4/5

What I Like:

  • Solid sound quality with a good range of low, mid and high
  • Sound is well balanced even at low volumes
  • Built in battery bank to recharge phones
  • Battery lasts a very long time for music playback
  • Easy to connect and pair
  • Durable and rugged build
  • Goes quite loud without distortion
  • Clear indication of how much battery is remaining

What I Don’t Like:

  • Bass tones tend to muffle treble
  • Lowest bass tones are lacking
  • Bluetooth range could be better

Summary:  This speaker has a respectable audio profile, with a decent mix of low, mids and highs. Due to its size restriction, it does not have much in the way of deep bass, however it makes up for that by boosting the mids. This has a tendency to muffle treble a little bit, but it provides a rich, warm tonal range especially at lower volumes. The awesome build quality combined with the decent sound make it quite a good speaker.

Build Quality & Appearance

The speaker stands out from the crowd, with its honey-comb rubber design. I love the bright colorful ones and the dark one looks handsome too. The speaker has quite a bit of heft to it, likely due to its giant battery pack, but that gives it a solid quality feel. The metal grill and soft rubber make for an overall excellent feel.

Audio Quality

Audio quality of this speaker is quite good, especially at close range.  It has a warm, rich sound profile, but it does tend to muffle the treble a little. If you prefer heavier bass over extremely clear treble, this is your speaker. Bass tends to drop off pretty quick and there is a ‘prime’ listening distance for this speaker that sits at about 5 to 6 feet. There the sound quality is best, as the bass has fallen off enough to open up the treble. The speaker is decent at reproducing low tones for its wattage and speaker size, but keep in mind that the lowest tones are generally missing. That’s not to say the speaker sounds bad – quite the opposite in fact – and without something significantly better to compare it to I never found myself unhappy with the audio quality.

Battery Life

Battery life on this speaker is excellent and one of its strongest points. Because of the 7,000 mAh battery it gets just under 20 hours of playback time. Awesome.

Connectivity & Signal

The speaker connects quick and fast with the standard Bluetooth connectivity tones, but the signal drops out fairly quick past 15 feet likely due to the metal build. I’d recommend this speaker for use in close range.

Other Notes

I don’t know how drop or waterproof this speaker is and I like it enough that I’m not about to test that and potentially sacrifice my speaker. The battery bank function works fine too. There’s a line-in port on the front of the speaker, but using it compromises the waterproof integrity.

Conclusion

Overall, this is a pretty good speaker for the price. The sound is good, the battery life is great and the battery bank feature is an added bonus. I would recommend it to those who like their treble a little subdued.
