Neewer NW-7500 Condenser Mic Review

Categories Headphones and Speakers

Rating: 4.5/5

What I Like:

  • Handsome looks
  • Good overall audio quality, especially when paired with phantom power
  • In a pinch, will work directly plugged into a computer
  • Metal body and metal pop filter
  • Includes XLR -> 3.5mm audio cable
  • Rich, bold voice tone and very little background hiss when used with phantom power

What I Don’t Like:

  • Plastic shock mount feels cheap
  • Requires external power to properly function, even though it can be used directly into the computer using external power results in better overall audio quality

Conclusion:  I’m not a singer, so I have only tested this mic while speaking. In terms of build quality, the microphone is well made with a solid metal body but the shock mount feels a little cheap because it is made out of plastic. The kit includes an XLR to 3.5mm cable, a metal pop filter, the shock mount and an adapter for mic stands. This microphone is designed to be plugged directly into a computer or used with 48v phantom power. I found that my results plugging it directly into the computer were mixed. One computer had excellent, but quiet audio quality while the other had lots of background noise. With phantom power, the mic will produce better results. For reference, I’m sitting about a foot away from the mic and talking in a normal voice right now. The microphone has rich, bold voice tones. I feel it would be better suited for deeper voices. There is a constant slight background hiss that is removeable in post. Of course, I’m just using a basic home set up so the quality of recordings are limited by my other hardware. I recommend using this mic with a proper mixer or phantom power for best results but in a pinch it will work plugged straight into most computers.
